The Lotus Pond at Narita Terminal 1 is not only adorned with stunning lotus flowers but also home to a vibrant community of koi fish. These elegant and colorful fish gracefully swim beneath the lily pads, adding a touch of liveliness to the serene environment. The koi fish, known for their resilience and beauty, have long held symbolic significance in Japanese culture.

According to Narita Airport, they opened the Japanese Lotus Garden in June 2015 to welcome the inbound customers with the “Ohga Hash” lotus and beautiful Japanese flowers for all four seasons. Just some text from the above image is below (official announcement)

Lotus flowers have been loved since ancient times as a symbol of peace. “Ohga Hasu” lotus spread throughout the world from Japan and are, therefore, a fitting symbol of the warm welcome we wish to convey to customers arriving from abroad. Customers lined up in the distance trying to get on the Keisei Bus and the tranquility is a super contrast not to be missed.

These lotus flowers have been carefully nurtured by Narita Airport since 2008 at Shibayama Wetland Park located just south of the airport. The “Ohga Hasu” lotus produces beautiful flowers from early summer until early autumn, and we hope you enjoy these and the other colorful flowers with the change of seasons throughout the year.
