With the old emblem now out the door, the organizing committee is running against a tight schedule to get a replacement within a year. A couple of days back an announcement came from the organizing committee with the title “Tokyo 2020 Launches an Open Competition for the Design of the 2020 Games Emblems”. The competition is open to everyone regardless of previous experience or formal qualifications, and individual or group applications are welcomed. Foreign nationals resident in Japan too are eligible to apply. The schedule is as below (See the official website here for submissions)

If you are not resident in Japan and still want to apply, you still can take part via the group entries system (10 persons max.) as long as at least one person meets the above age, nationality and residential requirements. 24 November 2015 (noon JST)	Opening date for receipt of entries
7 December 2015 (noon JST)	Closing date for receipt of entries

Applications can be submitted online from Tuesday 24 November to Monday 7 December 2015 through a website to be publicly announced at a later date.The prize is @10000 USD (not much advertised on the financial reward, it is only in the PDF published by the committee) and invitation to the opening ceremony of the Games in 2020. By removing a significant incentive to earn royalties and keeping a small financial reward, we think the committee is trying to get only the seriously motivated folks than royalty driven ones.
